The central nightlife scene of Angeles City in Balibago, known as The Walking Street and previously knows as Fields Avenue, features hundreds of girl-orientated bars as well as restaurants, hotels, and western-style nightclubs. Fields Avenue is the name of a major street running through Balibago area of Angeles in the Philippines. It is the center of the red light district and the bar scene of the biggest entertainment district of the Philippines.

Today, it is emerging as a food, entertainment and casino center for tourists from all over the world. it is also known for its rich nightlife, with many bars catering to local and foreign tourists alike.

Fields Avenue developed in the early 1960s as a street lined with bars to cater to the single American defense personnel who worked in the adjacent Clark Air Base. The street just outside the main gate of the base had just three bars in the 1940s and 1950s. However, as the American presence in the Vietnam war grew, more and more forces were deployed at Clark or routed through it. This led to a proliferation of bars, live bands and prostitution, the latter mostly by young Filipina women, most of them either teenagers or 18–25 years old. By the 1970s, there were more than 150 bars and prostitution joints along Fields Avenue. This led to a mushrooming of related ancillary industries in the vicinity, namely music bands, hotels, doctors, hairdressers and money exchange / transfer services. In its heyday, Fields Avenue provided direct or direct employment to nearly 20,000 Filipinos including plumbers, electricians and security guards. In the 1980s, though the American presence remained steady, the bars and prostitution shops continued to proliferate. Many bars and prostitution dens were owned by Americans as well as local politicians, thus leading to a nexus between the locals, politicians and American military and ex military personnel.

Walking Street or Fields Avenue can only be described as the melting pot of various cultures thus giving it the party atmosphere like no other. In a city that never sleeps, everyone is eager to show you a good time as Filipinos are well-known for their exceptional hospitality.

With the withdrawal of American defense forces from Clark in 1993, many of these establishments changed hands but continued to do business. As Clark was turned into a Special Economic Zone (SEZ), these bars and prostitution joints changed their clientele to suit their new customers - Japanese and Korean businessmen. Restaurants serving food from these countries began to appear and signboards in these languages were put up. The period from 2000-2010 saw further expansion of these joints, as the area was relabeled as an "entertainment district". Despite having no beach, Aqua Beach Club is also a haven for relaxation with its roof-top infinity pool, in-house gym and spa, plus the best view of the sunset. Activities such as hiking, kart racing, and guided tour services are available with most travel agents. Filipinos love "malling" and SM City Clark Mall, Marquee Mall, and several other malls are nearby. Fields Avenue, GoGo Bars/Show Places = Sexy Young Ladies

Evening bars (Perimeter bars , mentioned down below for early afternoon/evening bars).

This (Fields Ave) is where prices can be a little higher , and you have a better chance of finding 'lookers'. A lot of them open till the early hours of the morning (3/4 am) , later than Thailand for example. A small number are open 24/7. I can not imagine a Looker working early hours of morning , hungry not so popular girls will work those hours , but no need for a Looker. Suggest if your hunting for Lookers , dont arrive too early or too late. Lets say 8pm to 10pm would be good time for full choice. Exceptions always prevail. I know a place where Lookers start work 4/6pm and go home (barfine or not) 12 midnight : )

Average Prices - Your Drink P80/100 normally (can be less at some places , happy hours etc) ; Ladies Drink P150 and up (can be less or more at some places , eg P250 or even more at the big bars/show places). Make sure girl is ordering a "single" drink and not a 'double' (= double price ... San Mig Light beer is considered a double , at some places : ) ; Bar Fine .. Field Avenue area : Nowadays its P1500/1800 bar fine on average. Some places P2000/2500. Never going down : ) Small number of bars/show places exceed this , especially if one of their special girls (Spotlight girl) is involved. Spotlight girl can command P3000 , or more , bar fine. The Bar Fine is an all inclusive cost for the girl. Girl gets half of the bar fine when she returns to the bar next day. Show places usually cost more than non show places. Even though the barfine is an all inclusive price, and the girls get half of it , the girls appreciate a tip the next morning of course. Angeles has a significant number of Cherry Girls/Virgins on stage. Make sure your not pumping a lot of Ladies Drinks into a youngun who has no intention of being barfined , or if barfined is going to tell you back at the room she is a virgin. Make sure your not allergic to anitibiotics before taking same. Readily available at any Angeles Pharmacy without prescription. Not necessarily so in other cities , where you might need a prescription (doubtful). Google it for directions , side effects etc. Better .... just use condoms.

Popular Places - If you asked five guys to list the top five bars , each list would most probably be different from the other. New places pop up and knock out the established top ones for a while and then might even disappear. Established popular ones might have a change of Management, and business dives. It's a plus for the Philippines. No two trips of yours will be the same. Girls move on , disappear within a 6/12months time frame , normally. Replaced by fresh talent. Always exceptions , especially with the fugly ones (who have got nowhere to go) ... "Oh its you again" says the fugly as you step in the door : )

Personally, I think currently , the following are good value big show places , not in any order, and all in Fields Ave , convenient to my recommended accommodation:

• 1. Dollhouse, popular , but drinks service might be slow;
• 2. Golden Nile , 2nd floor (USA) .. Blue Nile Executive Club , 3rd floor .. Golden Nile Bar;
• 3. Forbidden City.
• 4. Crystal Palace There are a number of others too. Plus a hundred or more gogo bars (Fields and Perimeter Rds combined). 

Popularity changes , just pop your head inside a show place/bar, and if you like what you see , enter have one drink , exit if not for you, onto the next interesting place. Big places ( employing 100 or more girls) sometimes have bigger prices , especially the Show Bars (four listed above) where the girls put on a titillating show of sorts. You will know a show bar when you poke your head in the door. Anyway , one drink will not break you.

If you want to barfine a Spotlight girl at a Show Place, they will most probably cost double the normal bar fine that is, P3000 or more, to take away from the bar. Even if she promises long time LT, she might do a runner, and head back to the bar to see if she can secure another P3000 bar fine. As she climbs off you she says "It's Show Time", and out the door she goes : ) Word has it, these girls make enough out of their higher salary and ladies drinks commissions, that they are fussy with who they go with. And they expect a tip , P300/500 should suffice. Back at show place, and before paying bar fine , watch for attitude, some of them think they should be pandered and treated like a movie star : ) Tell waitress which girl on stage you are interested in, ask if she is Spotlight, or not ... she will laser beam her, girl comes off stage, order a P150 Ladies Drink to test run her (beware of other drinks P300/P450). If the vibes/karma is not there , thank her for her time, and try again with another. If she is not nice to you inside the bar/show place, she will be less nice outside it (your hotel) , you can be sure of that. Most of them are a girl friendly experience though.

YOU decide if she is special/spotlight. Waitresses in the same places are sometimes bar fineable , eg Forbidden City. It's always a possibility you can meet any of the girls next day and shag her before she starts work for P1000 all up, no need for tip on top of that. Your cellphone number is handy in this regard. Preferably do not let mama -san see you slip your phone number to girl of your choice. And do not let a mama-san or waitress decide who is going to be your companion. Chances are person recommending (waitress/mamasan) gets a commission from girl she recommended. Or is a close friend, relation, whatever.

Before you start to enjoy fun - of course you need a place to put your bag, suitcase or whatever ... and later while having fun you need the very same place again to enjoy fun and refuel your energy for even more fun next day ... Hotel Swiss Chalet is your choice - because Hotel Swiss Chalet is in the heart of Ageles city Fun - just steps away from Fields Avenue and all colorful fun places ... fun smiles, fun here in the Philippines has legs - sexy legs and smiling eyes ... unless you are OLD and just waiting for your funeral to arrive - may be you first think to START to live and start to have fun and enjoy love life in Angeles.

Some places open around 10 AM and many close at 02 AM to 04 AM - others however have 24 hrs open. hence fun never starts nor ends - fun is when you have it and enjoy it - any time any place in Angeles city.

Most likely you never reach the end of Fields avenue but end up in the arms of a sweet Asian beauty ... i remember my VERY first visit in a bar - in another country in Asia and thus another city ... and I was VERY young - many decades ago.

The Disney Land for Men

Angeles City is a medium sized city located on a plain about a two to three hour drive North of the Capital City Manila. For the most part this city has very little to boast about in the way of land marks or historical value unless you count in the former Clark AB once run by the United States Air Force. But if you make your way to the area just outside of the old air base you will find a hustling, bustling hive of drunkenness and debauchery!

Most of the decadent activity is located along the areas of Perimeter Road and Fields Avenue. These two roads are lined with numerous gentlemens clubs, karaoke lounges, pubs and discos. On these streets a person of either sex and in some cases of either sexual orientation can find gratification. The beer flows like water. Prices for a beer can range as cheap as 50 cents to $1.50. I don't know about ya'll but there are not too many places you can go to in the U.S. and get a beer that cheap while watching beautiful women dance in seductive outfits.

Gentlemens Clubs
There are a great number to choose from of varying quality and style. Most of them have their Guest Relations Officers (GRO) or Tour Guides(TG) wear similar outfits while they are dancing on the stage. Most of the outfits are somewhat revealing without being outright trashy. Back in the days when the GI's were present most of the girls just wore swim suits.

When you go to one of these places a girl will have a seat with you and within a few minutes of conversation will ask for a ladies drink. Most of the ladies drinks usually run from 2-3 dollars. They are either soft drinks or juice and the girl usually gets half of the price as take home pay.

If the girl likes you and you like her then it is fairly easy to come to an agreement as to how much it will cost to pay the bar to get her to leave work early for the night. Technically it is considered prostitution but this is a way for the bar to recoup any loss that might be incurred as a result of the lady no longer dancing for the customers. Most Bar Fines run from $16 to $25 dollars a night.

Many of these girls are here because they have no other way of getting money for their families. Good paying jobs are a scarcity in this country and I have met a handful of girls who were college educated. Many times we hear the laments of Non Governmental Organizations NGO's that many of the girls were forced into prostitution here. That could not be further from the truth. Yes, there are a handful that have some pretty horrific stories about how they ended up working in Sin City but they are the exception and not the rule.

My last visit a year ago I found that the Tahitian Queen was my favorite. There are others called Cleopatra's, Lollipops, Private Dancer and La Bamba. I would say at last count their were about 30 of these bars scattered about. If you decide that you really like one of the girls and absolutely most take her out for the evening, wear a condom!!!

Pubs
Not a whole lot of these in the town yet but there are a great deal of British and Australian tourists here and one of their favorite hangouts and mine is Woody's. This is where a lot of the guys just hang out and pass the time without having to worry about GRO's bugging them for a ladies drink or date. The food here is good and the atmosphere is relaxing.

Discos
There are a couple of decent discos in the area but my favorite two are Sky Trax and Music Box. Sky Trax is located right on Fields Avenue and had a tail of the space shuttle in the front as it's sign. During the week it is not incredibly busy but on the weekends this place gets jam packed with the locals looking to unwind after a hard week of work. It is basically a sausage fest in here so if you are looking to meet women this is not the place.

If you want to have a good time with your lady or meet a lady who is not necessarily working in a club then this is the place to go. Quite a bit roomier and with a touch more class this is my favorite of the discos. It is located off of Fields Avenue. Just ask anyone around and they can point you in the right direction.

Karaoke Lounges
There are a few of these located along perimeter road. Not really frequented by the western tourists, these cater more to the locals and visiting Asian businessmen. I have not been to any of these in Angeles but I hear they are pretty classy and judging from their exteriors I would have to agree in most cases.

Restaurants
Most of the places to eat in this town are outstanding. My favorites are Kokomo's and Margarita Station both located on Fields Avenue. They have dishes that range from American to Philippine to Thai. There are also the old standby's like Mcdonalds if you miss the taste of home.

Real Tourism
Aside from the bar scene there are still a few things you can do for entertainment here. I personally use Angeles City as a jumping off point to visit other parts of the Philippines such as 100 islands, San Antonio, Baguio, Olongapo etc. I will go to a small town called Dau just North of Angeles City and catch a bus to whatever part of the Philippines I want to go to at the terminal here.

If you are not into traveling around the countryside and want to stick in the Angeles city area then you can go onto the old airbase and play at one of what they say are FIVE world class golf courses. There is "duty free" shopping for everyone in a number of places on the old base and some sights you can see. There are planes, ultralights, and skydiving that can be done on the base as well.

Conclusion
There are many things to do for all kinds of people here but if you are married this is one place you may want to skip if you cherish your vows! Now, at this point, some of you are probably asking why a married guy like me comes here. I have got a good excuse, I have a house and family there. Oh ya, the wet T-shirt contests. The ones that I have seen should be re-named the wet naked wriggling body contests. There is a hotel called Swagmans that has a fairly famous one each year where men from around the world come to see but there are many other smaller ones that are held throughout the year.

Sex Trade in Angeles City

At a club called Koko Yoko, balding men with bulging bellies sit at an outdoor bar, sipping beers and leering at the young girls who pass on the model's runway gone wrong called Fields Avenue.

The U.S. base closed in 1992, and the often-randy airmen have gone with it. But the girls, the sex, the round-the-clock raunchiness remain. Only the customers have changed.

A thriving sex tourism trade attracts foreign customers by the thousands in search of something they cannot find back home: girls young enough to be their granddaughters selling sex for the price of a burger and fries.

Once populated by virile men in their early 20s who started each day with 100 push-ups, the place is now home to older men who need help pushing themselves out of bed in the morning.

Most are bused up from Manila, an hour away, on golf and sex package deals. This is no quasi-innocent boys' night out. Rather, it's a single-minded realm of weary-looking loners on a resolute hunt that smacks of feeding an addiction.

Many are ex-military men reliving former glories, Peter Fonda and Dennis Hopper wannabes, some gathering at the local American Legion post before embarking into the night.

There is a one-armed man, a retiree with a walker and another dapper gentleman who strolls along in a dress shirt, twirling an umbrella, whistling a private tune.

Many head to the bars with the red-light special called "The Early-Release": Buy your girl 10 drinks and she's yours, no questions asked.

Nobody asks questions here. Nobody gives their name. Credit cards are a joke; who wants to leave behind any economic traces that they ever set foot here?

A young dancer in tight red hip-hugger pants and matching sports bra acknowledges that Fields Avenue may not be pretty, but the money is good. She rolls her eyes at two overweight men who pass by looking like large reptiles dressed in children's clothing.

Sure, the sex is disgusting, she says. But at least it's over quickly.

Outside Koko Yoko, the doorman, a 33-year-old paraplegic, perches on a wheeled wooden pallet. He says his father was an American who once served at Clark, his mother a local girl. He contracted polio when he was 11 and has worked here ever since.

The street, he says, takes care of him. Soon, an idle stripper climbs onto his back, rubbing her crotch into the back of his neck.

Nearby a saggy-faced Australian lights a cigarette. He's been in Angeles City for about a month, his last stop on a sex circuit from Bangkok to Manila after getting laid off from his electrician's job in Sydney.

In Thailand, he says, the girls didn't speak the language. Manila hookers were too streetwise, the bars too spread out.

But this is Easy Street. He can sit atop his bar stool and ogle hundreds of passing girls fresh from the countryside who perfect the tricks of their trade before moving on to The Show in Manila.

Do’s and Don’ts in Fields Avenue

DO – Come prepared to have a good time.

DON’T – Think that the Philippines is nothing but a place full of bars and women that will have sex with you at the drop of a dime. The majority of females (including bargirls) in this country are extremely devout Roman Catholics, thus are extremely conservative. Approach the wrong one in the wrong way and you will either have your hands full, or feel like an extreme asshole.

DON’T – With the above in mind, absolutely DO NOT put down Catholicism. Filipino’s are extremely tolerant of many things, but you will lose A LOT of face to them if you insult God or the Catholic Church. I made the mistake ONE TIME of sharing my lack of belief in organized religion and it turned into a 3 hour-long debate with my ex’s uncle. Personally, I could have thought of more constructive things to do with my 3 hours.

DO – Use common sense when walking around. The Philippines is a relatively safe place, especially compared to the U.S. Let me put it to you like this though, would you go down an unfamiliar street in the dark if you were back home? Probably not, so why would you here? The majority of “problems” that you hear about involve a person being in a situation that could have been totally avoided. How many tourists or expats do you hear about being robbed on Fields Ave. or P. Burgos St? Virtually none compared to them take a little adventure that went astray……

DO – Leave the “freelancers” and “pick-up” girls on the streets alone, DO NOT pick them up. Yeah, maybe some could be looking to just get a little extra money, but think about it…if they are “working” for money, WHY aren’t they in a bar?! Underage? STD/VD? Bakla?! All of these could render some serious consequences for you, why try to save the tiny bit of money compared to getting a much safer girl. Be aware that Police in Makati will pickup underage girls and then transplant them on P.Burgos. As soon as she gets a customer, an undercover radio’s another guy that is waiting down the street and THEN YOU ARE FUCKED! I have seen it right before my eyes, trust me Police in Fields Ave in Angeles City have been known to plant underage girls and then bust into your hotel room, catching you “red-handed”. Both of these result in a lot of hassle, a lot of embrrassment and a lot of money.

DO – Always leave a tip for waiters/waitresses, ALWAYS. It absolutely kills me that some foreigners DO

NOT. The only time that I will fail to leave a tip is if the service is absolutely horrid. Think about this, that waitress that brought you food makes P200 ($4) a day!! Even your 20-peso tip will put a smile on her face and she will remember you, thus paving the way to better service in the future.

DON’T – Entertain a vendor unless you are really interested. BELIEVE ME ON THIS. you show the slightest sign of interest and you will be pestered for the rest of your trip. You acknowledge them with more then a “No” or a “no thank you” and they WILL follow you. you have been warned…

DO – If you have a favorite bar, tip the bartender. I do this regularly and my drinks come almost immediately, always in the bigger glasses and never lean on the alcohol. I walk in, they know me by name and my drink is on its way before my ass even touches the chair.

DO – Buy the mamasan a drink if she is being nice to you. I have quite a few here on Burgos that ALWAYS make sure I have exactly what I want and strike up a conversation with me (a REAL one). If the girls see the mamasan has respect for you and likes you (not like that, pervert!) they tend to be more relaxed because “mommy knows best” and you are obviously a “nice guy”. If you live here or are a regular here/plan to stay awhile, your reputation is EVERYTHING.

DON’T – Carry a conversation with a Filipino-male that is “extremely-nice” that you just met on the street. The majority of them want to sell you something, offer a “service”; basically it will revolve around them trying to get money from you. Just walk past them. This isn’t to say ALL are like that, but if you are reading this then you are obviously a newbie, so why take the chance??

DON’T – Think that your shit doesn’t stink. ALOT of us foreigners go to exchange our money into pesos and get a fat stack back. Some then feel that since they have all this money that they can do whatever the hell they want to. Again, your reputation is very important and asshole guys that act like they own the country get NO RESPECT from anyone. Sure, they will take your money and offer you service, but they also talk behind your back when they are away from you.

DO – If you barfine, tip. PERIOD. In Angeles City the girl gets 1/2 the barfine and guys feel inclined NOT to tip them. In Makati and Sabang Beach, the girl gets NONE or VERY LITTLE of the barfine and the tip is pretty much all that she gets. It seems to revolve mostly around European guys. Case in point: Sabang Beach. Many European’s go there and barfine. When the girl is done with her service they don’t tip, which obviously makes the girl rather upset. Now, because of you, some of the Sabang Beach mamasan’s are asking for the Barfine plus the Tip before you take the girl out.

DO – Tip appropriately. Tip too much and you are taken advantage of, tip too little and you are a cheap bastard. P500 in Angeles, P2000-P2500 in Makati, P2000 in EDSA and P1000 in Sabang. You CAN tip more and it’s always good to clarify with the girl before you take her just to make sure. Yes, it turns it into more of a “business deal”, however if you are starting to think money, then you do not like this girl enough to the point where the potentially extra P1000 doesn’t bother you..

DON’T – Listen to every foreigner that you meet. There is a decent amount of people out here that are flat out off their rocker. These days I prefer meeting and talking with Filipino’s in Makati more then a foreigner. Keep people at arms length until you get to see how they really are.

DO – Always be nice, always try to have a smile, and always keep a cool head. Remember that you are not in your country and the concept of “rapid service” flat out DOES NOT exist here. People move slower, lifestyle is slower. Don’t expect things to be the same here as they are in the States. I would refer you back to the tip hint above. Typically after I leave a tip, I will get a regular waitress that will serve me every time

DO – Go to the “Bar-lingo” area to learn a few words. It pays heavily, and the more you learn the language the better your experience will be. On top of that you can create many a good opening lines if you catch the girl talking in Tagalog to her friend saying that you are cute and you respond, “Thanks!” She will be surprised and giggle and it will pave the way to a good time. Be forewarned though, you go overboard with the Tagalog and they will try to talk to you exclusively in Tagalog. So when they ask, “Oh! You know to speak Tagalog”, you better make damn sure that you clarify that you know only a little!

DON’T – Be pressured to get a girl from the mamasan. It’s her job to introduce you to girls. Some guys like this, most DO NOT. Typically I will tell them that I am “window shopping” and they seem to appreciate this because it’s amusing and they know that you are at least looking. Try it, it works.

DO – Always clarify BEFORE you barfine that the girl IS NOT a cherry girl and that she doesn’t have her menstruation. If you find yourself in a bar and it seems that almost every girl there is a cherry girl (or claiming to be), then it should be a hint to you that it’s time to take your ball and go home (read: to another bar). It’s obvious that you are NOT well received here, so you might want to think about what you did wrong.

DON’T – Carry your passport or a large amount of money with you. It’s plain foolish. I know that technically you are required to carry your passport, JUST MAKE A COPY! Remember: you lose that and you are SCREWED. Also, take only the amount of money that you think you will need, leave the rest in the hotel, including your ATM Card. Remember: you lose any of these and your vacation is DONE! Some people are speculative of the hotel safe typically in the room. Personally I put my money in an random pocket in the clothes that I have packed.

Wondering how this Fields got its name?

I've been wondering how this Fields got its name. It must have been Clark "Field's" since it is adjacent to the southern buffer park from the highway leading to the former military installation.

However, I fancy that it might have been aptly named after W. C. Fields, indeed a very funny and uncanny American comedian of old (1880-1946).

The Pinatubo aftermath and the night club diaspora from Manila under Lim has made it international, putting it back to life after the Americans, with hotels and restaurants mushrooming here and there. So now we get Euros, Swiss Francs, Pound Sterlings, Yens, Wons, etc., making everything quite sky-high expensive (from tricycle rides to housing). On the positive side we get international cuisine and alcohol. I just love dem dar expensive Austrian Schnapps, German weissbier, French wine and Irish Guiness.

This Fields Street (Avenue is an overstatement) does seem to make Angeles City quiet "angel-less", as have been pronounced by American servicemen. The "notoriety" lives on with the new clientele and hosts.

If one can't be a monk here, one's gotta wear protection, considering that its literally a one-way street. Welcome and be of the Best of Health!

Petition to Close The Red Light District of Fields Ave.

This is a petition calling for the closure of the brutal and vile red light district in Fields ave, Angeles. As a citizen of Angeles with a family, i am disgusted and sickened by the human trafficking of women and children by organized crime syndicated in fields ave.

Our government stands by and does nothing while women and children every day and night are trafficked by brutal gangs of Australians, Americans and other foreign gangs to the thousands of Pedophile tourists that flock to Fields ave every year.

Filipinas are subject to this constant degradation and humiliation of our women and children and our corrupt government does nothing. The only thing the Philippine Government does is attack and abuse the charities and welfare agencies that are trying to expose the crimes of fields ave.
The government talks no action against the foreigners involved in the trafficking or the pedophile customers.

To Avoid a Hangover, Drink Plenty (of Water)

"One of the biggest problems with avoiding and treating hangover is recognizing the misconceptions," said Dr. Marc Siegel, an internist and clinical professor of medicine at the New York University School of Medicine.

He believes the best remedy -- and preventive -- for a hangover is also the simplest: Drink lots of water.

"Remember, the main cause of hangover is dehydration -- alcohol is a really powerful diuretic, and people get much more dried out when they drink than they may realize," Siegel said. "So the most important thing to do -- before and after a hangover -- is to drink water."

Smart punters ideally alternate one glass of water for every drink consumed, providing their body with extra fluid to compensate for what's been lost. "Some kind of electrolyte solution, such as Gatorade, might be good, too," Siegel suggested.

And remember, what you imbibe may be as important as how much you imbibe when it comes to hangover.

"While all alcohol can cause hangover, wine tends to cause more headache," Siegel said. "Also any drink with lots of sugar in it -- that has a dehydrating effect separate from the alcohol."

Despite the best precautions, a hangover can still rear its aching head come sunrise. Siegel advised that, besides drinking copious amounts of water, the following remedies may help:

• Coffee. A cup of java can cut headache, but watch out -- it's another diuretic, so don't refill that mug too often.
• Analgesics. Again, moderation is the key. "They're good to use for headache, but Tylenol [acetaminophen] is toxic to the liver, like alcohol, while aspirin is toxic to the stomach -- again, like alcohol," Siegel said. A regular Tylenol or two is fine, but any more than that might be hazardous.
• Exercise. A workout can be great for your circulation and might perk the body up, but it dehydrates, so be sensible about it.
• Prickly pear cactus flower. "It's a new remedy on the market now, and it seems to soothe the stomach, but it's also another diuretic," Siegel added.

Then there are more dubious hangover "cures," some of which might do more harm than good:

• Staying awake. There's a theory that keeping awake through the night somehow inhibits the buildup of toxins within the body. "That's a nice idea, but unfortunately it's never been proven," Siegel said.
• Hair of the dog. Many swear by a nip of alcohol the morning after to take the edge off a hangover. "It can work, but it's a really poor treatment," Siegel said. "Ultimately, you're hangover is going to catch up with you later on, with even more dehydration and more toxins."
• RU-21. This drug -- originally developed by the Russian KGB -- is designed to ward off a hangover even among those who drink heavily. "I'm not a fan of RU-21," Siegel said. The buildup of toxins "is a warning sign that we've drunk too much. Without it, you may drink more, get more inebriated, and do something like drive drunk."
• Spicy meals. While some are hot on the idea that Kung-Pao chicken for lunch thwarts a hangover, spicy meals "may add to the problem," Siegel said. "They simply give your [gastrointestinal] tract another problem to deal with."

In the end, he said, the best way to treat hangover is to avoid getting one in the first place. That means pacing yourself when it comes to drinking, and consuming lots of water. "Water is great, too, because it flushes out the kidneys," Siegel said, "increasing the rate at which toxins are gotten rid of."

Why do they call it Fields Avenue?

You hear people say, “Fields Avenue” or simply “Fields” when they are referring to Field Avenue. Look around the Internet and you will find this is a common error even in print. It seems many businesses located on Field Avenue have perpetuated the error by listing their address as being on Fields Avenue (with the “s”).

Field Avenue was not named in honor of W. C. Fields or any other person with the name Fields. It started out as a road next to an army airfield and as was common practice it was named Field Avenue.

If you look at old maps or street signs you will find the spelling to be “Field” (without an “s”).
